The story behind the print
Buti & floral prints
- Origin:
- Sanganer, Rajasthan (inspiration)
- Since:
- 18th century
Small, scattered flowers — butis — are the signature of the delicate floral prints that made Sanganer near Jaipur famous.
A buti is a small motif — often a flower or bud — repeated across the cloth. Sanganer, a town near Jaipur, became known for delicate floral prints of this kind; its hand-block printing grew in the 18th century, and Sanganer hand-block prints are a registered Geographical Indication today.
Light, everyday buti florals on breathable cotton remain one of the most loved looks for Indian bedrooms.
Our buti designs are screen printed, one colour at a time, for crisp, even flowers across the whole sheet.
